Their life was blessed and it wasn't in a false, celebrity type of way. Joey and Rory really, truly love each other and always will, Rory explained on his blog.
"Joey loves real cowboys. And me. I don’t know why she loves me. She could’ve had any cowboy she wanted. Could've had the western life she dreamed of as a little girl riding her first horse, Velvet. But she didn’t choose some handsome Marlboro man with a Sam Elliott mustache and a thousand-acre ranch. Instead, she chose our little farm and she chose me."
Joey and her husband traveled the country singing and spreading their cowboy-cowgirl charm, collecting fans in every city they performed! After years on the country music scene, their talent for writing music was turning heads as well. Soon they were writing for artists like Mark Wills, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Randy Travis, Lorrie Morgan, Tracy Byrd and Blake Shelton.
Their lives came crumbling down after a routine checkup with a gynecologist revealed a concerning mass in the lower part of Joey's ovaries. Subsequently, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in May 2014.
The brave mother and wife underwent a radical hysterectomy in an attempt to stop the spread just months after the diagnosis. But to everyone's dismay, the disease returned about a year later as Stage IV cervical cancer. Joey tried many of the same procedures, but to nothing was working - with a heavy heart, Joey announced that she would be stopping treatment in October 2015.
Even though she's been in hospice care since November 2015, Joey, Rory and Indiana are making every second count! Joey has remained strong enough to see her daughter's second birthday, as well as Christmas and New Years.
Joey and Rory even got to celebrate Valentine's Day together with lots of sweets, matching corsages and sushi!
There were signs that Joey's health was improving, it took a sudden and drastic turn for the worse last month. As the doctors forewarned, Joey has been in a "deep sleep" for almost a week now which is generally the final step before death.
By the grace of God, Joey was able to achieve her final wish of giving Rory and Indiana a kiss goodbye just before she fell unconscious. There's no doubt that she loves them very much!

Despite the rough medical treatments and the horrible pain, Joey remained positive until the second she went to sleep. She reassured her husband, daughter and the rest of her family that she is just fine with the way her life played out.
"God only gives each of us a certain amount of time to be on this earth and we get to decide how to spend those precious minutes and hours... One of the last things Joey said before she drifted into the deep sleep is, 'I have no regrets. I can honestly say, that I have done everything I wanted to do and lived the life I always wanted to live.'"
Joey really is an inspiration to us all - God is getting ready to accept a wonderful angel!
