A Powerful Message About Gender Stereotypes In The Family

From a very young age, children often mirror their parents' behavior - and will carry it on through adulthood. In this video from a laundry company, they show us an eye-opening example of how gender stereotyping can easily be passed from generation to generation. This has a powerful message that should be observed by all.
The video begins with a Grandfather sitting at a table with his grandson. His daughter comes home from work and immediately gets into her nightly chores of laundry and catering to her family. The Grandfather watches her run around the home, as her husband sits on the couch without offering to help. There is a voice-over of the Grandfather reflecting on how his daughter used to play house, but now she is managing her own...
He then goes on to give apologies to his daughter - saying, "Sorry you have to do this alone. Sorry that I never stopped you, while you were playing house. I never told you that it's not your job alone, but your husband's too." Feeling sorrow, the Grandfather admits that he never helped his wife, and how her husband's father probably did the same. He adds, "Sorry on behalf of every dad who set the wrong example..." The video finishes with the Grandfather going home to help his wife with the laundry. After all, "it's not too late."
