Painting On Water

During a 3-month stay in Istanbul, Mike took a class on an unusual art style. Not only relaxing to watch, he says it can also be very relaxing and healing to do it yourself. With little to no previous experience, he enjoyed producing fun and creative paintings.
Here he shows the teacher of his painting on water class. The man appears to be putting something into the water in front of him as he prepares, then picks up a jar of paint. Seeming to not have any pattern planned out, but just going with what he felt like, he sets droplets of paint into the water, one color after another. His process is mesmerizing.
After the dots have formed with several colors, he swirls them into a new, fascinating pattern. Moving on, he begins a new dot that he forms into a different shape, more flower-like. To complete the artwork, he takes a paper and very carefully lays it on top of the water canvas, using a tool to flatten it completely. After a few moments he lifts the paper off the water, revealing an amazingly beautiful painting. This style of creation does seem like a fun and relatively simple way to relax while making art.
