The Statler Brothers On The Nashville Network

In the 1980s and '90s, The Statler Brothers were often seen on The Nashville Network. Their videos were regularly shown, and later, they had their own weekly variety show. Here, on "The Statler Brothers Show", they sing "More Than a Name on a Wall".
Though they were called The Statler Brothers, only two members of the group were actually brothers, and no one really had the surname of Statler. Funnily enough, they got the name from a brand of tissue they saw in a hotel room. This band took gospel harmonies and put them into country music, a great combination.
"More Than a Name on a Wall" was written by Jimmy Fortune and John Rimel. The Statlers recorded it in 1989. The song is about a mother visiting the Vietnam Wall to see the name of her son on it. The touching tribute to those in the military and their loved ones is sung in beautiful harmonies by this country vocal group. Though they began their career backing Johnny Cash, The Statler Brothers certainly made a great name for themselves as their own group.
