She Inserts Wooden Sticks Around A Paper Heart - The End Result Is Perfect For Valentines Day
by Tahlea Jankoski 12/31/2015
Valentine's Day is just around the corner, which means heart-shaped treats are almost here. Why not wrap those goodies inside a matching heart-shaped basket as a special gift for your loved ones?
You're All Heart
Start by either printing a heart shape, or tracing the outlines of a heart onto a piece of paper. Cut around the edges until all you have left is the heart shape. You can make it as big or as small as you would like, but keep in mind the size of the heart determines the basket's overall size.
Stick It On
Use a stick of glue on the back of the heart, and then glue the shape onto a piece of sturdy cardboard.
Cut It Out
Cut around the heart again, but this time, cut through the cardboard. Now you have a sturdy base and can start building the frame for the basket.
Pencil Power
Using a pencil, make evenly spaced dots around the outer edges of the heart.
Start Chopping Wood
She calls them bloomsticks, but you can use any wooden stick to build the frame. Even disposable chopsticks might work! Cut them until they are about 6 inches long.
Hole In One
Then, use a pen or other sharp tool to slowly poke a hole into each dot. Don't go all the way through the cardboard. Insert a wood stick to make sure it will fit. Repeat this step for each dot you penciled in earlier.
Glue It On
Glue one wood stick into each of the holes you created. Try to make the sticks as straight as possible.
In And Out
Get out your ball of yarn and tie a knot around one of the wood sticks. Then, start weaving it, alternating with an in-and-out pattern around each of the sticks.
Heart-Shaped Basket
Weave the yarn through as many rounds as it takes to completely cover the sticks from top to bottom. It should look like a basket at this point. Don't forget to tie a knot when you're finished, so that the yarn doesn't come undone.
Trim The Tree Tops
With a strong pair of cutting sheers, trim the top of the wood sticks.
Fill It With Goodies!
Although not pictured in the video, you can trim the top of the basket with a piece of lace, and glue little balls on top of the wood sticks. Now, it's ready to be filled with gifts!
It's A Wrap
Add the final touch by wrapping the basket in clear cellophane and tying it with ribbons.
It's So Crafty!
Using a few simple and easily accessible tools, you can create your own gorgeous gift basket!
See How It's Made
See how easy it is to make this super cute basket filled with love!
So Adorable!
Go ahead and tell them you made it! Not only will your loved ones appreciate the gifts, but they'll love that you took the time to make the basket for them as well.
