Some movies become larger than themselves making an impact on society that could never have been predicted. The actors and scenes from the movies become part of our lives in a way that really cannot be explained. In an effort to help celebrate one of these actors, Dick Van Dyke, recently, fans in L.A. helped him celebrate his 90th birthday by putting on a flash mob.
Who can forget the lovable chimney sweep named Bert? He was a cheerful songbird in the movie "Mary Poppins" that also had some pretty amazing dance moves. Generation after generation has fallen head over heels for the whimsical character named Bert - and for the movie that taught us that "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down."
For this reason (over 50 years later), Dick Van Dyke fans gathered at The Grove in Los Angeles to help him kick off his birthday weekend. And what exactly do you give the man who had you singing and dancing across your living room floor? A flash mob and sing-a-long, of course! People dressed in their best chimney sweeping gear gathered to give him a birthday he'll never forget. Forming a large group, they danced to some of the most famous "Mary Poppins" songs while Dick watched from a balcony. Then, it was completed with a sing-a-long with the actor to the song, "Let's Go Fly a Kite." What a beautiful way to honor such a special man. Happy birthday Dick!
