Listening to Christmas carols is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. There's something about the uplifting lyrics, cheerful bells and happy words that put a twinkle in our hearts!
Well, if you like the sound of that, strap in. In this video, BYU Vocal Point sings a glorious rendition of "Silent Night," which is sure to brighten your mood. We're ready for Santa Claus to slide down the chimney right this very second!
The acapella music group, BYU Vocal Point, does an incredible job bringing this song to life. It begins with one member of the group singing solo, then slowly others come to join in. It takes place in a barn, which is glowing with light - symbolizing that a child has been born. The men all stare lovingly at a scene before them. Although you never see what they are looking at, it is surely the newborn baby Jesus.
Vocal Point is a staple around campus and has been for nearly 30 years. The group's official page share how their newest director, McKay Crockett, has taken their work into the digital age:
"After a record-breaking eight years with Stevens at the helm, Vocal Point once again came under the direction of its own: McKay Crockett. Crockett’s four years in VP had provided him plenty of opportunities to hone his leadership and sound engineering skills..."
"Crockett began a new frontier for Vocal Point. Not only did the group continue to innovate beyond any other group in collegiate a cappella with live performances (including the use of in-ear monitors), but with internet usage as well. Producing digital media content became a focus of the group. The group’s first pop music video, 'Brave,' began a string of music videos that launched Vocal Point from a few thousand subscribers in 2012 to over 350K in 2018! The most popular video, 'Nearer My God to Thee,' has almost 20 million views.
Along with the videos and accompanying singles, album production took a front seat. VP’s first-ever all-hymns album ('Lead Thou Me On') was released in October 2012. A year and a half later, 'Spectrum' was released, and in 2015, Vocal Point’s very first Christmas album 'He is Born' hit the shelves in 2015."
Now, they're busy recording incredible tracks like this one! The men sing "Silent Night" with voices that sound like angels in heaven up above. It's evident that BYU Vocal Point put a lot of heart and soul into both the song and the video.
They say, "Our favorite part of the video is the very last shot, when we all symbolically kneel before the Christ child, offering ourselves and our talents as a gift to Him." Wow, absolutely beautiful!
