He Cuts Apart Coke Cans- Then Creates A Unique Gift Anyone Would Want To Have
by FaithTap Staff 12/3/2015
The Coca-Cola delivery truck has been an iconic part of the Christmas season for many years. We are proud to feature this amazing DIY tutorial to show you how build your own!
Deck The Halls
Decorating for the holidays is a great tradition and building your own Coca-Cola truck is a simple and fun way to bring the family together this year. To build the truck you will need 12 empty coke cans, 11 plastic bottle tops, 4 skewers and a tube of super glue.
Cut It Out
First, start by cutting off the lid and bottom of each can. Just be careful not to cut yourself on the sharp edges of the aluminum pieces. A simple knife and regular scissors will do the job just fine!
Harvesting Your Aluminium
You should wind up with twelve rectangular pieces of aluminum each piece should be 9 x 21 centimeters. This material will be used to construct the individual pieces of the truck.
Get It Flat
Next, you will need to get the curve out of the aluminum and flatten it. This can easily be done by running it backwards over the edge of a desk or counter top.
Template Time
Using a felt tip marker and a ruler, you will then need to mark out the templates on the back of each piece of aluminum. The templates can be downloaded from the DaveHax.com website. Using these ready made templates will make it easy to figure out what needs to be cut, punctured or folded.
It's All In The Details
Next, you will need to cut out each piece of the truck. Use scissors and be as precise as possible when following the templates to ensure a great looking final product!
Shaping Your Truck
You will then need a straight edge to begin folding the sides of each piece to bend them into the proper shape. Start off with the roof and windscreen of the cab.
Fold and Repeat
After it's folded into shape, you will then need to pierce a line of holes approximately a centimeter apart along the side of the cab, a push pin will work just fine on the soft aluminum.
The Cab Comes Together
You will eventually have all of the pieces needed to assemble the cab!
Gluing It Together
Use the super glue to begin gluing together the pieces of the cab. Start with the roof and the siding, then the grill, and finally the wheel wells.
Halfway There
Next, use the super glue to attach the base and back of the cab together.
The Small Details
Time to make your truck look more realistic! Construct the exhaust pipe and glue on a bottle cap to the top of the back deck to function as a trailer hitch. The cap will hold the trailer in place, so make sure it's glued on securely.
Truck Full Of Holes
Continue the same process of cutting, folding, and piercing holes for all of the pieces of the trailer, just as you did for the cab.
The Trailer Is Ready
After you have finished, your trailer pieces should look like this!
Super Glue To The Rescue
Then it's time to start gluing the trailer together. Start with the front and sides then finally glue on the base.
Round And Round They Go
Next, you will need to create axle runners that the skewers holding the wheels will be threaded through.
Running On Coca Cola
Fold each of the axle runners and glue them to the base!
Bring It All Together
You will then need to fold and create the bumper and glue it on. Finally, add the towing hinge to the front of the trailer for a completed look!
Time For A Tire Change
The wheels come next and are created with the remaining 10 bottle caps. Pierce a hole through each one with a thumb tack and then make it wider with a screw driver.
Almost Ready To Roll
Put the wheel on a skewer and thread it through the axle runners on bottom of the truck and trailer. Cut it the skewer to the correct length and add the second wheel on the opposite side for each of the five axles.
The Rims Make The Wheel
Use some of the remaining aluminum to cut out wheel covers and put them into place on the end of each of the bottle cap wheels.
The Final Product
Finally, attach the trailer to the cab and the Coca-Cola truck is now complete!
Lighting Up The Truck
For extra fun, try lighting up your new truck. Simply place an LED keychain light inside the trailer and cab, the effect is super cool!
From Start To Finish
This project may seem complicated but it is actually pretty simple. In this video, YouTuber DaveHax explains each step in detail. Take your time and have fun building!
Christmas Cheer Is Here
This Coca-Cola truck is a great edition to any holiday decor! Making it with your children or grandchildren is half the fun. It's a unique way to add some extra Christmas spirit to your home!
