We use foam packing peanuts to provide added protection to our belongings but it turns out that's not all these soft, styrofoam pieces can be used for. Their alternate uses are quite surprising.
Fill the bottom of a large potted plant
A couple of inches should be filled with packing peanuts on the bottom of your pot to serve as a layer that will allow air to get under the soil. Be sure that the packing peanuts you're using are not made with any kind of cornstarch since this can dissolve in water. Not only will this make a large pot less heavy, but you will save money on soil too!
Stamp it out
Use their unique "8" shape to create art with the kids or for yourself by dipping pieces in different colors.
Hold a small nail in place
Need to keep a small nail sturdy? Place it within a packing peanut to keep it in place and to allow you to grab onto something a little bit bigger.
Make an indoor campfire
Fill the bottom layer of a crate with packing peanuts, arrange various little trees and plants within it and then cover the top with tiny rocks until the packing peanut layer is completely covered.
