When Monica Willard, 28-year-old ROTC student at the University of Louisville, had her babysitter cancel last minute, she was forced to come up with a backup plan...fast. Monica was required to take a final exam in her U.S. Military History class that morning, and had no childcare for her 5-year-old daughter Mikayla and her 4-year-old son Marcus.
Left with no other option, Monica decided to take her two young children with her to school. She set Mikayla and Marcus up on a couch in the hallway just outside of the classroom. As she left the pair of them to take her final exam...she crossed her fingers and hoped for the best!
As Monica attempted to focus on the history test, her attention was quickly diverted back to what was taking place in the hallway. This was the moment her professor, Dr. Daniel Krebs, stepped in to assist. He told WLKY News:
"I look outside through the door and I see the two kids sitting in front of the laptop kind of arguing and fighting" He then said to Monica, "You take your test, don't worry about that. I'll take care of your kids so you can focus on actually answering my questions."
Chris insisted that his act of kindness was simply "common sense."
Although Monica was very aware that her professor was caring for her children, nothing could have prepared her for what was taking place just outside of the classroom. When she walked out into the hallway to check on Mikayla and Marcus, the scene she was met with took her by complete surprise. . .
Although Monica insists that her professor is the one to acknowledge in this situation, Chris said in an ABC News piece:
"A person like Monica, she's a non-commissioned officer going to school, she's a mom of two kids. I mean that's the kind of thing that's really impressive. Me handling her kids for 40 to 45 minutes, that's not impressive."
It seems that Dr. Krebs deserves a pat on the back for this kind act. . . and Monica deserves one as well for being a hardworking, wonderful mom!
