Seargent Bass and his fellow officers of the St. Albans police department were at the Kroger investigating a separate shoplifting incident. Suddenly, a store employee walked up to them and claimed a woman had locked herself in the bathroom with a baby, and had been yelling at the infant for the past 20 minutes.
Inside, they found Donnyell Harrison screaming at a 14-month-old infant, while trying to hide illicit drugs from the police. The baby, whom she was looking after for a family friend, was sucking on a bottle filled with nothing but Dr. Pepper.
Seargent Bass was horrified when he saw the baby drinking soda instead of formula. When he asked why the little infant didn't have any real food, Donnyell claimed she didn't have anything else to give the baby. The Seargent didn't buy that excuse, especially since they were in a grocery store!
The sergeant stocked up on necessities for the cute little girl by purchasing toys, food, and diapers. Then, he setup camp for 4 hours at the police department while waiting for protective services to arrive. A father himself, he couldn't imagine this happening to his own kids.
Cops and cute babies always make a great story. Seargent Bass is certainly a hero for rescuing this little tot! But, what's even better is a happy ending for the little girl. She's no longer in the hands of a negligent caregiver, and that's a great start all on its own.
