Animals have often been utilized in the police force. The officers that work with these animals become very close to their four-legged companions. They spend a lot of time ensuring these animals are safe and well-trained.
Officer D. Herrejo and Charlotte, the horse, were partners in stopping crime! They patrolled the streets of Downtown Houston where Charlotte would always share a friendly hello to the children of the city. Unfortunately, this would be Charlotte's last day on the job.
It started when Charlotte was spooked by a cement truck and began to buck wildly and throw off Officer Herrejon. The horse then backed into the wheel of the truck, causing severe damage to her hind legs. Officer Herrejon was transported to the hospital and a veterinarian ruled the horse had to be euthanized. Officer Ronald Curry stayed back to comfort Charlotte as she took her final breaths.
We've always said we support ALL animals, and know the relationship with those animals & their person is an incredible...
The Houston Police force suffered a huge loss that day. The animals they employee are truly valued and loved by everyone in the department. Officer Curry sent a special message out to the public thanking them for their support of Charlotte. It truly touched their hearts.
Watch Officer Curry express gratitude for everyone's support.
