Jamie-Lynne was having a hectic day with two young children that wouldn't behave in a busy grocery store. She decided to brave the holiday crowd and head out to Trader Joe's with her 8-month-old son, Wyatt. The little baby was quite fussy, but she finally reached the checkout line.
When she reached the cash register, Jamie-Lynne realized she left her debit card at home. She tried her Canadian card, but it was declined due to an anti-fraud lock. With a long line building behind her, Jamie-Lynne was ready to ask the cashier if she could leave her groceries and come back later to pay for them.
A young man behind her then offered to pay for her groceries. Jamie-Lynne declined at first but the young man insisted. He told her she just had to promise to pay it forward as he took care of her $200+ grocery bill. With tears in her eyes, Jaimie-Lynne thanked him and then asked for his name and where he worked. After he told her, they parted ways.
His name was Matthew Jackson and he worked at a local LA Fitness gym in Carlsbad, California. A week later, Jamie-Lynne decided to call his boss and tell the story of Matthew's kindness and generosity. Her phone call was met with tears from Matthew's boss. She was told that Matthew had tragically passed away in a car accident, not even 24 hours after their brief encounter at the grocery store.
Jamie-Lynne was heartbroken over the news. She was able to connect with Matthew's mother and share the story. His mother responded,
“Hearing what my son did for a complete stranger just one day before he tragically died has been such a gift. My precious boy loved people… I am completely devastated and broken, but I also have absolute hope that I will see him again.”
Paying It Forward
Jamie-Lynne is determined to have Matthew's request of paying it forward live on. Jaimie-Lynne wrote about her experience with Matthew on Facebook and shared how he touched her life.
Most nights I don't sleep because I have a 5 month old and a 2 1/2 year old.. If one is sleeping, the other is usually...
Jamie-Lynne also made a Facebook page in his honor where people from all over the world are inspired by his story. The page encourages people to do extraordinary things for strangers in need.
