After falling in love with him at first sight, 102-year-old Iona took Edward home with her to start a new life. Though they were decades apart, Edward's adoption was truly meant to be for Iona.
She Had Unconditional Love To Give
Iona L. walked into the shelter looking for her next companion, and waltzed out with a very cuddly Edward in tow. He was a cute 2-year-old kitten she had just adopted from Montgomery County Animal Shelter.
She Needed A New Companion
After her cat passed away, Iona's son thought a trip to the animal shelter would give her a chance to connect with a new friend. Plus, it could help a lonely pet find a forever home!
A Match Made In Heaven
Barbara Bates, the animal coordinator at the shelter, was tickled pink when she saw Edward make a beeline for Iona. He quickly snuggled next to her, as if he'd known her forever. Edward's coat of fur even matched Iona's winter coat! This connection was definitely meant to be.
As reported in the Huffington Post, when Barbara asked Iona if she could take a photograph of the adorable pair, Iona said:
"Honey, I sure hope I don't break your camera!"
Far from breaking the camera, this adorable photo has stolen our hearts.

They Give Us Happiness
Iona L., who didn't want to use her full name due to privacy concerns, was straight to the point when she told the Huffington Post about her recently departed animal friend:
"I'd had him for 10 years. I needed a companion."
Many animals, human or otherwise, crave companionship. It's certainly no coincidence Iona and Edward found each other when they did. It was perfect timing!
He Will Always Have A Home
Given Iona's age, some folks might be concerned that Edward's new "forever" home might actually be short-lived. However, Iona's son assured Barbara that the kitten would remain with the family, no matter what happens. Barbara was certainly not hesitant in letting Edward be adopted into the family, stating:
"To me, an animal gives you life, that a person can't, or material things can't."
Barbara knew that Edward was going home with the right family, especially since Iona adores cats and has been fortunate to have them all her life.
Shelter Pets Are Awesome
There are many animals of all types who are in need of tender loving care, and in return, they bring a lot of happiness into our lives. Iona has shown that you're never too old to offer love and friendship to an adorable pet in need of a home.
