In a time of mourning, our heads can be a bit foggy. That was the case for Ginny Penny-Headen, who was admittedly speeding when she was pulled over earlier this month.
The Belleville, Illinois woman was thinking about her recently-passed dad (pictured above) when she was pulled over for driving 65 MPH in a 55 MPH zone by Deputy Dan Hill of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department. Gina owned up to the fact that she was speeding and stated that her mind should have been on her driving. Deputy Hill cautioned her to slow down and let Gina off with a warning.
When he left, Gina broke down crying, she was both touched by the kind gesture and flooded with memories of her father at the same time. Deputy Hill noticed her tears and came back to the car and to ask Gina if she was OK. She then explained why she was upset. Deputy Hill expressed his condolences, comforted her, and helped her to breathe and calm down until she finally regained her composure.
An Unexpected Letter
But it was what happened a few days later that flabbergasted Gina.
What A Card
She received a card in the mail from an unknown sender, when she opened it, she was shocked.
All His Sympathies
Inside Deputy Dan had written a hand written heartfelt note again expressing his condolences for her father's passing. He did not know her dad, but it was just the kind gesture from the universe that Gina needed.
The Nicest Note
The deputy's sweet words, accompanied by the Bible verse Revelation 21:4, inspired Gina to share the note with the world.
"My condolence on the loss of your father. I'm sure he was a great man that loved his family. I pray that your tears of sadness become tears of joy in remembering his legacy."
It's a reminder that, although a stranger might not know the situation you're in, it doesn't mean they don't care.
She explained the entire situation in a Facebook post, which has since received over 27,000 shares and a barrage of comments commending the deputy. Gina's post is provided below:
The Bright Side
While Gina is certainly still missing her dad, the impact that his passing had on complete strangers proved that his legacy will live on in her family and beyond.
A Real Reminder
While we might not always know what's going on in a someone's day, the deputy's note proves that we should always be kind. After all, you never know when you'll be the one to need a sweet, unexpected gesture from a stranger.
