She Places Gingerbread Men Upside Down - What She Makes Instead Of "Men" Catches Me Off Guard
by FaithTap Staff 11/13/2015
Gingerbread men are adorable. In fact, they're so cute that you almost feel guilty eating them and ruining their adorable shape - but despite their cuteness, they're delicious and with these ideas you can enjoy not only eating them but using them as decorations as well.
Turn them into an ornament
Using a few coats of varnish, gingerbread men can go from cookies to ornaments that will last up to 3 years without rotting. Make a batch to eat and a batch to preserve as ornaments this year. Learn how to make these ornaments here.
Gingerbread man garland
Decorate them to use as a garland. Follow these directions and once they have been covered with mod podge they can be reused the following year. If you don't want to use them as a garland, use them as adorable gift tags for presents.
Hang 10!
Give you gingerbread men a new pose before popping them in the oven. You'll really want to "hang out" with them once they are done!
Flip them around
Turn leftover gingerbread men upside down to make reindeer!
Ice cream sandwich
Craving something cold? Place your baked gingerbread men in a ziplock bag with a slice of bread next to it and let it sit overnight. This will help make the gingerbread cookie soft, since it'll be sucking the moisture from the bread to create the perfect doughy ice cream sandwich consistency that your cookie needs. The next day, fill the middle with ice cream and you've got yourself a deicious sweet.
Gingerbread wreath
If you have extra dough, consider making a gingerbread man wreath. Bake them in a circle, then weave a ribbon through their arms to hang up around the house.
Hug it out
Using chopsticks, wrap the gingerbread mans arms around the chopstick before baking. Make sure you pinch each of the arms together so that it creates a secure shape once the cookie has baked. Once baked and cooled, remove the chopsticks and replace the gap with a candy cane.
Make them a home
Create a home by tracing out three shapes onto parchment paper. The first shape will be used as the front and back piece (which will have a roof), the second shape will be the left and right sides of the home (with just slots for the ribbon to go through) and the final piece will be the bottom base. Once you have your shapes, you can cut out the pieces from the dough, bake it and then decorate them.
No cookie cutter? No problem!
Transform plain cookies into gingerbread men with icing.
Spruce up your gift wrap
Give everyone an edible treat to go along with their presents.
Leave some for santa
Decorate cookies with the kids and attach a ribbon or piece of string around them to leave out some milk and cookies for santa.
Gingerbread oreo men
Craving chocolate? Make a twist on gingerbread cookies by using oreos instead. Everyone loves oreos.
Take them for a sleigh ride
Cut a milky way in half, place the gingerbread man within the "sleigh" and stick candy canes on the sides by using melted chocolate to get it to stick.
Gingerbread fudge
Wrap aluminum foil on one side of a cookie cutter. Once fudge has been mixed, fill the cookie cutter with fudge and allow to cool and mold into shape. Carefully peel off the foil once the fudge has set and you have adorable gingerbread shaped fudge. These make great gifts! The recipe can be found here.
