Apples are plentiful (and cheap!) this time of year. YouTuber Hollywood Glamour used four Granny Smith apples because they bake well, keep their shape and don't turn to mush under a bit of heat. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, then slice the top off of four of the apples and, using a spoon, scrape away the innards of teach apple.
If You're An Overachiever: Make The Filling Yourself
Peeling the skins and removing the core, chop up two extra Granny Smith apples, which will make up the pie's filling. Add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon rum extract, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon light brown sugar and 1/4 cup pecans. Mix them all together, then add the mixture into the hollowed out apples.
Using store-bought pie crust, roll out the dough and slide into 1/4 inch strips. Lay on top of the filled apples in a lattice style and trim any excess pie crust that's hanging off the sides of the apples. Using 2 tablespoons of unsalted, melted butter, brush the tops of the pie crust, then sprinkle with a touch of cinnamon sugar.
We know these pies look impossible to resist already, but just wait until they're done! In a glass baking dish, add 1/4 cup of water and the apples. The water should cover just the bottom of the apples. Then, cover the pies with foil and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Next, remove foil and bake for an extra 20 minutes.
